Medicine

INTERNAL MEDICINE

We cover all areas of internal medicine including:

  • Cardiology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Neurology
  • Dermatology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Orthopedic surgery
  •  Oncology
  • Endocrinology

Complicated cases that require additional care may be referred to the Veterinary Specialty Hospital or the North Carolina State Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE

Illness doesn’t always have a physical cause. Our veterinarians can help determine the cause of such disorders as separation anxiety and obsessive behavior, and then develop a treatment regimen and behavior program for the client. Appropriate medications can be prescribed if needed. Our veterinarians can give consultations on behavioral problems or basic obedience advice.

DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY

Radiology, or X-rays, help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. Our digital radiography allows us to manipulate images and see a wider range of abnormalities and diagnose certain conditions earlier. Radiographs may also be emailed to specialists for advanced consultation on cases.

ULTRASOUND

This non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart (echocardiograms) and abdominal organs. Pregnancy exams are also available.

ENDOSCOPY

Endoscopy allows us to visualize the esophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestine using a flexible tube with a small camera. It is possible to take some biopsy samples or retrieve some foreign bodies by passing small clamps through the working channel of the endoscope.
